Pear Oatmeal
Spiced pear oatmeal full of rolled oats, cooked pears, cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter is a weekday breakfast delight.

- 2 cups rolled oats
- 3½ cups water
- ½ cup pecans or walnuts (chopped, plus more for topping if desired)
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- dash of nutmeg
- 3 medium size ripe pears (about 2 cups worth, peeled and diced small)
- ¼ cup light brown sugar (adjust to taste)
- butter (a teaspoon or so for on top of each serving)
Steps
Combine the oats, water, pecans or walnuts, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
As soon as it boils, reduce the heat to low and simmer for just a few minutes until the oats are soft. Stir in the pears and cook just long enough to warm them, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat.
Scoop into serving bowls and top with butter and brown sugar, keeping in mind that the sweeter the pears, the less sugar you may need.
