Ingredients

5 servings
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 3½ cups water
  • ½ cup pecans or walnuts (chopped, plus more for topping if desired)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 3 medium size ripe pears (about 2 cups worth, peeled and diced small)
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • butter (a teaspoon or so for on top of each serving)

Steps

  1. Combine the oats, water, pecans or walnuts, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.

  2. As soon as it boils, reduce the heat to low and simmer for just a few minutes until the oats are soft. Stir in the pears and cook just long enough to warm them, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat.

  3. Scoop into serving bowls and top with butter and brown sugar, keeping in mind that the sweeter the pears, the less sugar you may need.
