Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, (at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt ((kosher or sea salt))
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet or milk chocolate chips ((or a combination))

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.

  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the butter and sugars. Mix on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Reduce speed to low. Add salt, vanilla and eggs; mix until well blended (about 1 minute). Mix in dry ingredients, and then stir in the chocolate chips. 

  4. Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spaced two inches apart. Bake cookies until edges turn golden but the centers are still soft, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Cookies can be stored between layers of parchment in airtight containers at room temperature for up to 1 week.
