Ingredients

  • ¾ cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large room-temperature egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 (15-ounce) can vanilla frosting
  • ½ teaspoons peppermint extract, (optional)
  • 7 crushed candy canes

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and line a 9x13 inch baking dish with aluminum foil and lightly spray with non-sticking cooking spray. Set aside.

  2. Using an electric mixer, whisk together the ¾ cup softened unsalted butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy.

  3. Add in the 1 large room-temperature egg and whisk until creamy and fluffy. Add in the 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

  4. Gently mix in the 2 cups all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking powder, and ½ teaspoon salt until combined.

  5. Place the sugar cookie dough onto the baking sheet or dish and press down until the dough is spread out and even.

  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the top is no longer wet. Allow the sugar cookie to cool.

  7. Mix the 1 (15-ounce) can vanilla frosting and ½ teaspoons peppermint extract,. Frost the sugar cookie and then top it with 7 crushed candy canes.

  8. Cut into squares then cut into triangles and serve.
