Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 1 ½ cups frozen diced hash browns
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • ¾ cup beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds
  • hamburger toppings (as desired, optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

  2. Brown ground beef, garlic, and onion in a skillet over medium heat until no pink remains. Drain any fat. Stir in diced potatoes and cook 3 minutes more.

  3. Combine barbecue sauce, mustard, ketchup, broth & cornstarch in a small bowl. Pour sauce over the meat mixture. Bring to a boil and let simmer until thickened, about 3 minutes. Pour into a 9-inch round baking dish or pie pan. Top with 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese.

  4. In a medium bowl, combine Bisquick, egg, milk, and ½ cup cheese. Spread over meat mixture and top with sesame seeds.

  5. Bake for 22-27 minutes or until topping is golden and cooked through.
