Ingredients

4 servings
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon ginger (minced)
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ⅛ cup water
  • 2 -3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined with tails on, if desired)
  • green onions, (if desired)
  • sesame seeds, (if desired)

Steps

  1. Add 1 clove minced garlic, ½ teaspoon ginger, ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce, ⅛ cup water, 2-3 tablespoons brown sugar, 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil to a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.

  2. In a small bowl whisk together 1 teaspoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Slowly whisk in the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan.

  3. Simmer whisking constantly until sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.

  4. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 pound large shrimp and saute until fully cooked, for about 5 minutes.

  5. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the shrimp and stir to coat.

  6. Serve immediately with green onions, and sesame seeds, if desired.
