Ingredients

18 servings
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup cornstarch
  • ⅔ cup grated cheese (such as emmental, comté, or parmesan)
  • ½ cup black sesame seeds
  • sliced almonds (for fingernails)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • ⅛ tsp food colouring (optional)

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, olive oil, milk, salt, Italian seasoning, baking powder, flour, cornstarch, and grated cheese until a smooth dough forms.

  2. Divide the dough and roll into finger shapes about ½ inch (1 cm) wide and 5 inches (12 cm) long.

  3. Roll about three-quarters of each finger in black sesame seeds to create texture.

  4. Press a sliced almond onto the tip of each finger to form a nail.

  5. Mix the egg yolk with food colouring. Using a small pastry brush, lightly paint each almond “nail” to create a witchy polish effect.

  6. Arrange the fingers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 20 minutes, or until lightly golden and firm.
