Ingredients

  • 8 thinly sliced medium red potatoes (about 2 1/2-3lb)
  • 2 cups cooked chopped ham
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1½ cups 2% milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a 9x13 inch pan. Layer 8 thinly sliced medium red potatoes and 2 cups cooked chopped ham in the pan.

  2. In a medium saucepan, melt ¼ cup unsalted butter. Add 1 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon salt and ⅛ teaspoon black pepper. Cook and stir 1 minute.

  3. Whisk in ¼ cup all purpose flour until smooth, then gradually whisk in 1½ cups 2% milk and 1 cup heavy cream. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, 3-4 minutes. Stir in 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese.

  4. Pour sauce over potatoes and ham. Cover with foil and bake for 60-65 minutes, until potatoes are tender.

  5. Uncover, sprinkle with 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese , and bake 10 minutes or until thickened, bubbly, and cheese is lightly browned. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
