Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1¼ cups all purpose flour
  • 1¼ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, (softened)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1¾ cups powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners.

  2. Beat the first 4 ingredients at medium speed with an electric mixer until well blended (about 5 minutes). Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition.

  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. In a small bowl stir together the milk and maple syrup. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture alternately with the milk mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture; mix after each addition.

  4. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin cups. Bake 20 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in the pan 10 minutes on a wire rack; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack.

  5. Use an electric mixer to beat the maple syrup and next 4 ingredients (syrup through salt) in a large bowl. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating just until blended (do not overbeat).

  6. Spread the frosting over the cupcakes.
