Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, (at room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 large overripe banana, (mashed with a fork)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with foil. leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides. Coat the foil with nonstick spray.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine the butter and sugars until creamy- about 2 minutes. Mix in the eggs, banana and vanilla; beat until combined. Beat in the flour mixture until just combined, then stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts with a wooden spoon.

  4. Spread the batter in the pan with a rubber spatula. Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bars comes out clean- 35 to 40 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and let the bars cool completely.

  5. Lift the bars out of the pan using the overhanging foil. Peel off the foil. Cut into squares.
