Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1½ cups granulated white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, melt the butter at medium heat. Reduce to a simmer and stir until the butter turns golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cooled butter, sugar and eggs.

  3. Sift the dry ingredients together and stir into the wet mixture. Cover the bowl and chill the dough in the refrigerator until firm.

  4. Preheat the oven to 375° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat mat.

  5. Roll the dough into small balls (about 1½ tablespoons of dough per ball). Roll the balls in the mixture of cinnamon and sugar, and place on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cookies are flattened and crinkly.
